‘Modification with descent’.
By way of Charles Darwin’s theory, ‘modification
with descent’, from ‘The Origin of the Species’,
I explore the relationship between individual integrity
and identity that exists within a peer group or tribe. My
enquiry is as simple and as complex as finding your own
position within a particular situation.
This space is constantly evolving and re-structuring, and
deals with this abstract notion, entities on the cusp of
rejection or acceptance.
These forces, which combine collectively to make up a larger
unit, remain in constant flux, as members of the group of
tribe come and go.
The paintings and digital prints are a collection of shorthand
motifs, which create an inferred space within physical and
imagined borders.
Rather than being depictive, the motifs suggest a visual
force comprising of form, volume, time and space: a snapshot
of an event. |
