White Blanket
Mixed media with gum leaves 230cmx100cm

White in western cultures represents purity, peace and heaven.
In Eastern cultures it represents death.
This sculptural, organic form attempts to express an angelic realm.
It emerges from a white powdered ring, that leans upwards towards the universe. The gum leaves function as a protective organic layer which peacefully reside on a Muslin cotton cloth. This particular cloth traditionally used to wrap newborn babies is portrayed here as a mysterious and soft under layer or mattress.
During the state of rest and repose, the subconscious awakens and the spirit is liberal, but the blanket continues to generate warmth and security.
‘ Death’ a parallel to ‘repose’, unlike slumber or rest, it is a frightening phenomena and a dimension we will all plummet into and experience.
Once the soul has crossed through this phase, it is free and thus remains permanently lingering in the hearts of the beloved.
